Huw Edwards was arrested last November after suspicions of a sex scandal involving minors. It was his wife herself who revealed the suspect's identity, as at the time it was only known that he was a BBC presenter.
Former BBC journalist Huw Edwards was charged with three offences of producing indecent images of children.
The accusation was made at the end of June, but only now has the information been released by British publications, which quote the London Metropolitan Police.
At issue are several sexually-charged images that the former BBC star had on WhatsApp.
Edwards, 62, will appear in court this week, on Wednesday 31 July.
Edwards was arrested in November last year after it was suspected that he was involved in a sex scandal involving paying young people for sexually orientated photographs.
The information that a BBC journalist was involved in a sex scandal was confirmed by the broadcaster at the time, which referred to later clarifications, but in the end it was Edwards' wife who revealed his identity.
