A Spanish tourist died on Sunday when he was trampled by a group of elephants after getting out of the car he was riding in to try to take a photograph.
The South African authorities announced that the 43-year-old man was rammed in the Pilanesberg National Park, about 200 km from Johannesburg.
According to park officials, the victim was in the company of his girlfriend and two other women when they saw three elephants and three calves.
The man got out of his car and tried to approach the animals to take photos, at which point he was attacked.
An animal conservation specialist says that the animals' behavior "is normal" and regrets that visitors to the area are unaware of the danger of their actions.
