Romanian Police Search Andrew Tate's Home in New Investigation

Romanian police on Wednesday searched the home of British influencer Andrew Tate as part of a new investigation into human trafficking and money laundering.

"Although the allegations in the search warrant are not yet fully clarified, they include suspicions of human trafficking and money laundering," Tate's legal representatives said in a statement quoted by Reuters news agency, adding that the Briton's lawyers were "present to ensure that all formalities are properly completed."

Romania's Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) only confirmed that it had carried out four house search warrants in Ilfov County and the municipality of Bucharest.

The investigation in question concerns "a criminal case concerning the commission of the crimes of creation of an organized criminal group, trafficking in minors, trafficking in human beings, sexual relations with a minor, influencing statements and money laundering."

Andrew Tate, his brother Tristan, and two Romanian women were charged in 2023 with human trafficking, rape and conspiracy to sexually exploit women. Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan also face criminal proceedings in the UK on charges of rape and human trafficking, after British authorities issued a European Arrest Warrant as part of an investigation by Bedfordshire Police.

In March, a Romanian court approved the UK's request to extradite the brothers over allegations of sexual assault dating back to 2012 to 2015, but only after the Romanian trial had concluded.
