Brothers Die in House Fire While Mother Was at the Supermarket

The family was referred by social services.

Four boys died in a fire surrounded by garbage and human excrement after their mother left them home alone to go to the supermarket in Sainsbury, UK.

The four children, all brothers, died in a fire in December 2021 in the house where they lived in Sutton, south London.

The mother, Deveca Rose, 29, denies the manslaughter of her two sets of twin sons, Leyton and Logan Hoath, aged three, and Kyson and Bryson Hoath, aged four, and the charge of child cruelty.

According to the BBC, neighbors saw the flames break out and could hear the children screaming in the incident that happened in December 2021. They broke down the door to try to save the children, but were unable to enter the house given the size of the flames.

In court, the mother denied the accusations against her and claimed that the children had been left in the care of a friend, whose body was never discovered. The woman's defense also claimed that she was struggling with depression, and the judge refused to accept this justification for the incident.

An investigation into the fire concluded that the cause was either a cigarette that had not been properly extinguished or a candle that had been lit near the sofa in the living room. One of the two may have spread by igniting garbage scattered around the house.

According to The Telegraph, the children were referred by social services and the family's case was closed three months before the incident that killed the four children.
