Angola and the United States signed today, in Luanda, an air services agreement and another that includes services in the field of Defense, announced the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two legal instruments were signed within the scope of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, with the aim of the air services agreement to promote a competitive international aviation system and reduce government interference, facilitating international air transport with safety and security.
This agreement establishes overflight and stay rights, as well as encouraging fair competition between airlines from both countries.
In relation to Agreement 505, relating to training and other services in the field of Defense, it establishes the conditions for the provision of training and other services within the scope of the International Military Education and Training Program (IMET).
The two agreements were signed by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes, and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States accredited in Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi.
According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "the agreements represent a significant advance in cooperation" between Angola and the United States, in addition to consolidating a mutual commitment to economic development, security and regional stability.
The United States "supports Angola's efforts to combat corruption, increase accountability, promote democratic governance and support the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms", the note continues.
