The company has a goal of having zero carbon emissions by 2030.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a recent interview that the company is considering using nuclear energy to ‘power’ the tech company’s data centers.
In an interview with Nikkei Asia, Pichai spoke about the company’s goal of eliminating carbon emissions across all its operations by 2030. The executive said it is “a very ambitious goal” and that it has been made even more challenging by the development of Artificial Intelligence that the company has been making in recent months.
“We are now looking at additional [energy] investments, such as solar, and evaluating technologies such as small, modular nuclear reactors,” Pichai explained according to the Business Insider website.
