The Israeli army claimed today to have killed Hamas leader Rawhi Mushtaha in an air strike against the Gaza Strip three months ago.
According to the Israeli military, the attack on an underground compound in northern Gaza killed Rawhi Mushtaha and two other Hamas commanders, Sameh Siraj and Sameh Oudeh.
Hamas has yet to comment on the matter.
The Israeli military claimed that the three Hamas commanders had taken refuge in a fortified underground complex in northern Gaza, which served as a command and control center.
Mushtaha was a close associate of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader who helped plan the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
According to the Associated Press, it is possible that Sinwar is “alive and hiding” in Gaza.
Israel's announcement about Rawhi Mushtaha comes just days before the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israeli territory.
