17-Month-Old Girl Dies After Swallowing Battery Without Parents Noticing

A 17-month-old girl died after ingesting a battery in Italy, without her parents realizing it.

Everything would have happened on November 5th, the day Camilla started bleeding from her nose. Because they were unable to stop the bleeding, the girl's parents decided to take her to the hospital, where the baby ended up being discharged because the doctors found nothing strange, reports Il Messaggero.

After a few hours, the girl continued to feel unwell and returned to the Hospital del Corazón, in Massa.

On this second visit, and after more tests, doctors discovered a small battery discharged inside his body. The parents, not realizing this situation, did not report this to the doctors during their first visit to the hospital.

The child underwent endoscopic surgery to remove the object and ended up admitted to the ICU, where his health continued to worsen. Camilla was transferred to the hospital, and ended up dying.

Doctors believe that she did not survive due to substances released by the battery that would have had a harmful effect on her aorta. It is believed that the object remained in his body for probably ten days.

The parents, however, demand that an investigation be opened into what happened, as the doctors did not identify the child's problem on the first visit.
