1795 Book Predicted Tragedy in Valencia Due to Rains

"Its deep, wide bed is always dry, except in floods, when it receives so much water and flows so furiously that it destroys everything it encounters. In 1775 it caused great misfortune in Chiva, surprising its neighbors in the middle of the night. It swept away a considerable number of buildings, scattering over more than two leagues the sad remains and corpses of the poor who could not avoid death". The story is told in the work 'Historia Natural del Reino de Valencia', by Antonio José Cavanilles.

The work dates from 1795, but seems to clearly detail what happened around 15 days ago in the region of Valencia, with the passage of storm DANA.

According to ABC, the book is a warning or anticipation of the danger facing the residents of this region in the south of Spain and which, unfortunately, has now been confirmed by the floods.

According to the same publication, this is just one of a number of documents that have been written about the problems of water drainage in the area for years, and which even so did nothing to prevent the tragedy that was witnessed, which left more than 200 people dead.
