A cable car accident on Tuesday left at least six people injured, some seriously, at the Val-Thorens ski resort in Savoy, France.
The accident occurred just five days before the resort was due to open.
A cabin on the Cime Caron cable car crashed as it approached the resort, injuring at least six people, two of whom suffered serious injuries, according to the Savoy local authority. Despite the severity of the injuries, they are not life-threatening.
The accident occurred at around 7:30 am (6:30 am in Lisbon), in "very difficult" weather conditions and at an altitude of over 3,000 meters. The cable car was carrying 16 workers as part of an ongoing construction project.
The site is being evacuated. "All victims and people involved are currently being transported by the Orelle-Caron cable car," the municipality said.
Several emergency services from different authorities are on site and the mayor of Savoy has activated his crisis management unit.
