Five civilians were killed today in southwestern Rwanda by a soldier who fired inside a bar, the Rwandan Defense Forces said in a statement.
The Rwandan Defense Forces “detained the suspect and will take the necessary legal action against him,” the army said, adding that the motive for the shooting is unknown.
The shooter has been identified as a 39-year-old sergeant.
In 2020, six Rwandan soldiers were arrested after being accused of raping and beating civilians during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown in a slum in the capital, Kigali.
