OpenAI Signs Deal to Develop AI for Military Purposes

A partnership was announced with Anduril Industries, a company created by Palmer Luckey who also founded Oculus.

The defense technology company created by Oculus' Palmer Luckey, Anduril Industries, has announced a partnership with the Artificial Intelligence (AI) company behind ChatGPT, OpenAI.

Anduril announced in a post on Wednesday, December 4, that it plans to combine OpenAI's AI models with its systems and software to improve U.S. defenses against drone strikes.

As the website The Verge remembers, when OpenAI was subject to terms of service that prevented its technology from being used for “military and war use”. However, this point was removed in January this year.

“OpenAI develops AI to benefit as many people as possible and supports U.S.-led efforts to ensure technology upholds democratic values,” OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman said in a statement. “Our partnership with Anduril will help ensure that OpenAI technology protects the U.S. military and will help the national security community understand and use this technology responsibly to keep our citizens safe and free.”
