Man Proposes to Girlfriend After Finding Ring in House Destroyed by Fire

A man proposed to his girlfriend amid the rubble of his Los Angeles home on Friday after finding the engagement ring he thought he had lost in the devastating wildfires that ravaged the county.

According to ABC 7 Los Angeles, Brian McShea and Stephanie Raynor went through their now-flame-destroyed Altadena home to try to salvage any items that may have survived. There, McShea decided to look for the ring.

The man asked his girlfriend to look for objects in the rubble of the place where his desk would be, where he had hidden the ring in a drawer - but he did not reveal why.

"I was thinking, 'Well, maybe the stone [from the ring] can survive and maybe we'll find the little stone. ' I thought the ring was going to completely disintegrate," McShea said.

"We were digging around my desk (...) I didn't have much hope," he recalled. "But after we cleared away some debris, a little ring appeared and (...) we picked it up and a little diamond appeared," he added.

Despite having planned to propose in another way, the man didn't want to wait any longer and asked his girlfriend to marry him right there. The moment was marked on their social networks.

The couple does not yet have a date for the ceremony. As for the house, they liked to stay in that area and rebuild it.

The couple fled their home on January 7 before the house was consumed by the Eaton Fire, which has burned more than 56,000 acres in Los Angeles. The fire was one of several that have ravaged Los Angeles County, destroying more than 16,000 structures and killing at least 28 people.
