The idea of introducing advertisers into Apple Maps, the brand's navigation app, had already been a possibility in 2022, but was later abandoned. Now, there will have been a meeting to talk about the possibility of this change.
With the "new member of the family", the new iPhone SE, to be revealed this week, Apple may have yet another new feature in its sights.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the company is studying monetizing Apple Maps, which is the default navigation application on the brand's devices.
As Gurman explains, this is not the first time the company has thought about this possibility, and the idea was almost discussed in 2022.
Now, a meeting with the Maps team has already taken place, but the Bloomberg journalist still says that the existence of ads in this application may still be a long way off.
The scheme will be similar to that of competitor Google Maps, in that it will focus on paid search results - meaning a business such as a fast food chain could pay to appear at the top of search results when users search for "burgers" or "fries". Note that Apple already uses this strategy in the App Store, where some apps appear prominently due to payment to promote them.
