At least five people died and four others were seriously injured in a work accident at a mine in Cerredo, Degaña, in the Spanish region of Asturias, regional government spokesman Guillermo Peláez announced today.
An explosion in a mine in the municipality of Degaña, in Asturias, Spain, caused the death of five people.
According to ABC, at least four people are still trapped inside the mine and three others were injured.
Two of the injured were taken to Villablin hospital in Leon in serious condition. They have severe burns and one of them has a traumatic brain injury.
There are also two other workers who escaped unharmed.
There may be several workers trapped inside the mine.
SAMU mobilized the primary care team from Degaña, two mobile intensive care units with their respective medical equipment, a conventional ambulance and two casualty transport units.
The accident reportedly happened inside the coal mine when a machine they were working with exploded, causing burns and injuries to people nearby.
The workers were carrying out, according to the Asturian government spokesperson, work under an exploration license related to the possible use of the mineral for the production of graphite.
