Israeli Forces Issue Evacuation Warning for Rafah in Southern Gaza

The Israeli military today issued evacuation orders covering most of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israel ended a ceasefire and relaunched the military ground campaign and area war against Hamas, which controls the enclave, earlier this month.

Israeli troops launched a major operation in Rafah, on the border with Egypt, in May last year, leaving much of the city in ruins.

Israel has never withdrawn troops from the strategic zone established along the border, justifying its need to maintain a presence in the area to prevent arms smuggling.

The war in Gaza was sparked by the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which left 1,200 people dead and 250 hostages.

The large-scale military response against Gaza claimed more than 45,000 lives, according to Hamas's assessment.
