Matlala BLASTS Police for Evidence Tampering in Corruption Case!

Controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has accused the South African Police Service (SAPS) of fabricating evidence to implicate him in a web of corruption allegations tied to senior officials.

Matlala, currently held at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility, made the claims during his bail application at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, where he faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering related to a 2023 shooting involving his ex-girlfriend, actress Tebogo Thobejane.

His legal team alleged that evidence presented by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi who linked Matlala to the suspension of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and the disbandment of a political killings task team was tampered with.

Prosecutors cited cellphone data showing Matlala watching Mkhwanazi’s July press briefing and receiving calls from Mchunu associate Brown Mogotsi, but the defense insists the device was manipulated.

The state maintains Matlala poses a flight risk, pointing to a canceled R360 million SAPS tender scandal, his previous arrests, and a suspected Eswatini national ID.

The high-profile case, which has exposed alleged political corruption and security breaches, was postponed to September 8, 2025.
