Nepalese politician pleads for mercy as angry youths demolish his home!
A recent wave of anti-corruption protests in Nepal has led to the demolition of several politicians' homes. On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's private residence was set on fire and vandalized by angry demonstrators. This came after Oli's resignation on the same day, a move triggered by widespread unrest over a social media ban and allegations of government corruption.
Other high-profile politicians, including Sher Bahadur Deuba, leader of the Nepali Congress, President Ram Chandra Poudel, and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, also had their homes attacked. Lekhak, who had already offered his resignation, cited moral responsibility for the deaths of at least 19 people during the protests.
The protests, which initially began as a reaction to a social media ban, quickly evolved into a larger movement fueled by public frustration with political parties and pervasive corruption. Videos shared on social media show protesters setting fire to homes and clashing with police, despite an imposed curfew in the capital, Kathmandu.
