The president of Liberia has announced that he will cut his salary by 40%.
Joseph Boakai says he intends to cut his monthly pay to prove that his "governance is responsible" and to show "solidarity" with all those experiencing financial difficulties in the country.
This decision comes after the salaries of the country's top representatives were scrutinized at a time when the cost of living has risen.
The BBC recalls that one in five people in the country lives on just 1.70 pounds (2 euros) a day.
In February, the country's leader announced that his annual salary was 13,400 dollars (12,000 euros). With this cut it will go down to around 8,000 dollars (7,300 euros).
