Man Is Arrested With More Than 100 Live Snakes Inside His Pants

A man was arrested after trying to enter the city of Shenzhen, China, with more than 100 live snakes hidden in his pants.

China is one of the largest centers of international animal trafficking. According to the country's customs, the criminal left Hong Kong, a semi-autonomous region of the country, towards the neighboring city, where there is a customs office.

“During the inspection, customs officials discovered that the pockets of the pants the passenger was wearing contained six fabric bags sealed with tape,” the institution said in a statement.

“Once opened, the bags were discovered to contain live snakes of all types and sizes,” the statement said.

China's customs says 104 snakes were seized from the man. Many of them are not native to the region.

In recent years, the country has intensified the fight against animal trafficking.

Chinese biosecurity laws prohibit the entry of non-native animals without specific permission.
