The Israeli army today ordered a new withdrawal of Palestinian civilians from the town of Khan Yunis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, after Hamas launched rockets towards Israel that caused no casualties.
The spokesman for the Israeli forces in Arabic, Avichay Adraee, specified which new areas are covered by the evacuation orders and urged residents to move to the increasingly reduced "humanitarian zone" in the north of the town.
Israel has already ordered the evacuation of the population from large areas of Khan Yunis, an important region in the south that has historically been a stronghold of Palestinian militias, and where it has been carrying out a new offensive since last Friday.
In around 84% of the Gaza Strip, approximately 305 square kilometers, evacuation orders have been given by Israel, the United Nations agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) reported today.
The displaced population is forced to take refuge in sparse "humanitarian zones" spread across the enclave, full of tents and where there is no access to drinking water, electricity or basic hygiene services.
These areas have also been frequently targeted by Israeli army bombings, despite being designated "humanitarian" areas by the Jewish government itself.
Nearly 40,000 people have been killed and 92,240 injured in the Palestinian enclave since the beginning of the current conflict, according to the latest report from the Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by Hamas.
It is estimated that at least 10,000 Palestinians are under the rubble of buildings destroyed by the bombings.
The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas was triggered by an unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist group on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023, which caused around 1,200 deaths and more than two hundred hostages, according to Israeli authorities.
According to the Israeli army, of the 251 people kidnapped, 111 remain held in Gaza, of whom 39 have already died.
