A former Rockstar Games employee indicates that the decision will only be made closer to the game's release.
The end of 2023 was marked by the presentation of the first trailer for 'GTA VI', with Rockstar Games announcing a few months later that its highly anticipated new game in the saga would be released in the fall of 2025. However, it is still possible that the game will be delayed.
This is what Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar North employee who worked on several titles in the series such as 'GTA III', 'GTA: Vice City' and also 'GTA: San Andreas', says.
Vermeij recalled on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that “the decision to postpone ‘GTA IV’ was made four months before the original release date” and that Rockstar Games “probably won't be in a position to determine whether it will be able to release [‘GTA VI’] until May”. Even so, the former producer doesn't think that Rockstar Games is in any hurry to release the title.
“'GTA VI' will be sold for more than ten years and there's no competition to worry about,” wrote Vermeij. “They will release the game when they are 100% satisfied with it. Regardless of what appeared in the trailer.”
It's worth remembering that 'GTA V', the latest game in the series, was released in September 2013 and remains to this day one of the most popular games among video game aficionados - a fact largely due to the game's online mode.
