Israel is destroying Lebanese Hezbollah positions "in all the villages along the border" between the two countries, Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said today.
"We are not only defeating the enemy, but also destroying them in all the villages along the border, places that Hezbollah wanted to use as bases for attacks against Israel," Gallant said during a visit to the north of the country, from where the army is carrying out attacks against the pro-Iranian Islamist movement in the neighboring country.
Shortly before his statements, the Lebanese news agency ANI reported that the Israeli air force had carried out "14 successive strikes" in the space of 15 minutes against several areas of the village of Khiam, in the south of the country.
"Our goal is to completely clear this area to allow the residents of northern Israel to return home and rebuild their lives," Gallant added, indicating that prisoners who were part of Hezbollah were providing information.
At least 60,000 residents of the border region of Israel have been displaced by the conflict with the Shiite movement, which has been going on for more than a year and has intensified in recent weeks.
The Israeli military had already announced today that it had killed around 65 Hezbollah members in southern Lebanon on Saturday and destroyed rocket launchers and other "terrorist" infrastructure.
It also announced that it had carried out airstrikes on two neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of Beirut today.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has already caused at least 2,448 deaths and 11,417 injuries, the vast majority in the last three weeks, according to the latest count by local authorities.
