Raphael Varane Has New Job After Ending Career

Raphael Varane surprised everyone when he announced the end of his footballing career in September after playing just one game for Italian side Como. Almost a month later, the newly promoted Serie A club announced on Saturday that the former French star has joined the board.

“Como is pleased to announce the appointment of Raphael Varane as a member of the board. Recently retired from professional soccer, Varane will bring us his experience and leadership with this new role,” reads the Como statement, which goes on to give more details.

“His involvement will bring not only benefits to the players, but also to the wider community through educational initiatives. By integrating academic, leadership and professional training into the training programs, Varane aims to help young athletes prepare for life beyond soccer,” concludes the Italian club.

It should be noted that Varane retired from soccer at just 31, but with a vast list of titles that would make anyone envious: a World Cup, four Champions Leagues and three La Ligas.

On an individual level, it was at Real Madrid that the former French defender excelled at the highest level, making a total of 360 appearances for the Merengues.
