Germany will hold early parliamentary elections on February 23, 2025, after Olaf Scholz' s coalition government fell a week ago, reports AFP, citing a source in the ruling party.
After several days of arm-wrestling, the date was decided in agreement with the CDU/CSU conservatives, the main opposition force, the same source added.
Germany has been plunged into an unprecedented political crisis since the break-up, on Wednesday night, of the governing coalition that the Chancellor's Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens and the liberals of the FDP had led since the end of 2021.
On Friday, the German chancellor declared himself open to talks to speed up the holding of early parliamentary elections in Germany before March, following the collapse of his governing coalition.
