Nelly Furtado admitted to having been in a relationship with “abusive qualities”, which left her “feeling powerless”, during an episode of the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast.
The singer didn't reveal the identity of her former partner, but spoke about their “toxic dynamic”.
“I went through a very difficult phase where I think I accepted some things that I would never accept now, in terms of the way a person is treated,” she said on the podcast, quoted by the Daily Mail.
“You can't have that perception when you're in the relationship and sometimes you love someone so much...”
Nelly Furtado has three children: Nevis, 21, the result of her relationship with ex-boyfriend Jasper Gahunia, and a daughter and son, whose names she has never divulged, who are the result of her relationship with rapper Jerry. Among her relationships with the fathers of her children, she was married to sound engineer Demacio Castellon between 2008 and 2016.
