One Person Died After Bomb Explodes on Esplanade in Brasilia

After a man blew himself up near the Supreme Federal Court (STF) building on Wednesday night (13/11), the Federal District Military Police (PMDF) began a sweep of the area due to the “risk of explosions”. The N2 and S2 roads on the Esplanade were closed.

The Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) have already started the first investigative measures and forensics have been called to the scene.

Reports from people who were at the scene say that loud explosions were heard at different points in the Praça dos Três Poderes, on the Esplanade of Ministries. The situation occurred at around 19:30.

The Federal District Military Fire Brigade is currently attending to a car loaded with fireworks that exploded in the parking lot of Annex IV of the Chamber of Deputies.

In front of the STF building, police officers have cordoned off the site of a body. There is still no confirmation as to whether the two incidents are related.

In a statement, the STF press office said that at the end of Wednesday's session, two loud bangs were heard and the ministers were safely removed from the building.

“Servants and employees were removed from the building as a precautionary measure. More information about the investigations will have to wait until the facts unfold. STF Security is cooperating with the police authorities in the Federal District,” the statement added.
