Created in 1952, the Cecil B. DeMille Award is given individually to those who have made a significant career contribution to the world of entertainment. It is an honorary distinction given each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the annual Golden Globes Awards ceremony.
It has been awarded to 69 honorees, including Denzel Washington, Walt Disney, Sidney Poitier, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand and Oprah Winfrey.
Viola David is a revered artist, activist, philanthropist and best-selling author. She is one of only 27 people in history to earn EGOT status in the industry, having won statuettes at the Oscars, the Emmys, the Grammys and the Tonys Awards. She was also honored by Time 100 in 2017 as one of the most influential people in the world.
