Airbag Deactivated and Without Braking. Man Fakes Accident to Kill 'Ex'

A 43-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of simulating the accident that killed his ex-wife, last August, in Uberlândia, Brazil.

According to the G1 website, Aldo Lancelotti caused the accident to receive the life insurance policy of Maria Cláudia Santos Freitas, aged 44, whose value was approximately 1 million reais, something around 156 thousand euros.

The investigation, which lasted three months, showed that the crime was premeditated, as it had been being prepared since the beginning of the year, when Aldo and Maria resumed their relationship after a period apart.

The alleged accident happened on August 30, when a vehicle rented by the victim, who was in the passenger seat, crashed into a tree. Aldo, who was driving the car, suffered only minor injuries. The airbag on his side deployed, but the one on his 'ex' did not, which soon raised suspicions with the authorities.

At the time, Aldo claimed that the sun prevented him from seeing the road, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. But the explanation was not convincing.

After several tests, it was possible to see that Maria's airbag did not open because it had been deactivated, there were no braking marks on the road and the sun did not harm any vehicle at the time of the accident. Furthermore, that was the only tree in the place that could cause such serious injuries.

Brazilian authorities suspect that Aldo resumed his relationship with Maria with the intention of killing her and keeping the insurance money. The policies had been drawn up 20 days before the alleged accident and the Brazilian was placed as one of the beneficiaries.

The G1 website reveals that their relationship has always been troubled. The victim, at one point, was protected by a measure to remove the now arrested and alleged murderer.
