Deco Talks About Xavi's Dismissal: "I Don't Regret Anything..."

Deco, Barcelona's sporting director, spoke this Wednesday about Xavi and the time he had to fire him at the Catalan club after a home defeat against Villarreal (3-5) in January, although he remained in the job until the end of the season.

“Xavi's departure wasn't easy because he'd won a Spanish league title, he'd come in at a difficult time and accepted the challenge, but the season was tough in every respect and we decided it was best to change things on the bench,” said the Blaugrana manager in a statement to Sport.

However, the former Portuguese international guaranteed that “I don't regret anything because I'll always stand up for myself, because I always say what I think and my opinion at the time. Xavi will always be a friend, a very important person at the club, but that's soccer.”

“Sometimes things don't work out the way we think and we have to change. And we have to remember that it was Xavi who asked to leave first. (...) I have nothing to regret because it was a decision taken after a series of events. It wasn't my decision,” concluded the former Barcelona and FC Porto player.
