Quenda Will Be a Star – I See Similarities with Lamine Yamal

Former Sporting assistant coach heaps praise on the player who already has a guaranteed future at Chelsea.

Tiago Teixeira, former assistant coach at Sporting, revealed that he has no doubts that Geovany Quenda will be a serious case in world football, and was not surprised by Chelsea's early purchase. In an interview with The Athletic, published this Friday, the Portuguese coach also made a comparison with Barcelona's Lamine Yamal.

"He is very, very good as a dribbler. He is impressive physically and can beat his direct opponent both inside and outside," Tiago Teixeira began, continuing.

"I see similarities with Lamine Yamal. They both started playing senior football at 16, 17. Yamal is already playing for Spain, but Quenda has already been called up by Portugal and I'm sure he will be a regular in the national team in the coming years and a star in the Champions League. He will improve with age and continue to grow in terms of confidence. He has everything he needs," predicted the former member of Sporting's coaching staff.

It is worth noting that Chelsea signed Quenda, aged 17, for a fixed fee of around 50 million euros, to which an additional fee can be added depending on objectives. However, the Portuguese player will only move to London in the summer of 2026. The English club also invested another 20 million euros in Dario Essugo, who is on loan at Las Palmas, but in this case the young midfielder will move to Stamford Bridge at the end of this season.
