Taquon Jameek Vereen, identified by Fayetteville police as a Black male, was arrested after witnesses reported him painting swastikas on a building on Reilly Road. He faced charges of damage to property and trespassing, posted $1,500 bond, then got arrested again that day for pointing a gun at people on Bridgeman Drive.
Online posts highlighted how some local media skipped his race in reports, fueling talk about reporting patterns and assumptions in hate crime stories. Police confirmed no ongoing threat from the vandalism.
🚨OH. MY. GOSH!!! It has been revealed that the man who has been drawing Swastikas all over Fayetteville NC... ...is actually a BLACK MALE, "Taquon Vereen" who was given bail but he NEVER SHOWED UP TO COURT THIS WEEK SHOCKER!!!! ...now the judge has issued an arrest warrant and they CAN'T FIND HIM Curiously, although local media reported on the story, they miraculously failed to mention, AT ALL, the race of man who was drawing these swastikas. ...I wonder why 🤔
