Xi Jinping Asks Macron Not to Use War to Tarnish China's Image



"We oppose the use of the Ukrainian crisis to blame others, defame a third country and trigger a new Cold War", stressed the Chinese leader during a press conference from Paris, where he is on an official visit.


Xi Jinping also pointed out to Macron that China and the European Union "must continue to be partners, continue dialogue and cooperation", as well as "deepen strategic communication" and "strengthen mutual trust".


The French head of state had already indicated that both share "the same desire" to "respect the territorial integrity" of the countries.


Macron praised Beijing's "commitments" to "refrain from selling weapons" to Moscow.


"We believe together that an Olympic truce for all scenarios of war can be an opportunity to work towards a lasting solution with full respect for International Law", stressed the French leader, thanking his Chinese counterpart for his "willingness to commit to same direction."


Xi began his first visit to Europe in five years in France this Sunday, a trip in which he will share positions on economic development and the global role of his country with leaders of two political models, one of which is firmly rooted in the European Union, represented in France, and another closer to the Russian and Chinese environment, such as Hungary and Serbia.


The Chinese leader, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, refused to describe the conflict as a Russian invasion and blamed the Western alliance for part of the responsibility for its outbreak.


Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, and the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, he called for containment to avoid a larger regional conflict.
