The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, was in South Korea this Wednesday, in what was his first visit to the country in almost 25 years, and was received by his North Korean counterpart, Kim Jong-Un, in a ceremony full of smiles and hugs - and gifts.
To welcome the Russian president, Pyongyang's main square was decorated with huge portraits of the Russian and North Korean leaders and thousands of city residents, many of them children, greeted Putin and Kim with flowers and balloons, to the sound of a military orchestra. .
According to the Russian state press, which cites a Kremlin advisor, Putin offered his "ally" a luxurious Aurus limousine, after having presented him with a car from the same Russian manufacturer in February.
During the visit, Putin and Kim were photographed taking a ride in an Aurus, with the Russian president driving, but it was not clear whether the car was the one offered to the North Korean.
In addition to the limousine, presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov revealed that Putin also offered Kim a tea set and an admiral's dagger.
In turn, Putin will bring "good gifts" given by Kim Jong-Un to Moscow, according to Ushakov. However, he only disclosed that they are works of art "linked to the image of the Russian president." "Several image options, all very artistic, including busts," he explained.
It should be noted that Moscow and Pyongyang have been allies since the end of the Korean War (1950-1953), but have become closer since the Russian military operation launched in Ukraine in February 2022.
After North Korea, Putin will visit Vietnam, another Russian ally since the Soviet era, where he is expected to arrive later today.
According to Vietnamese state media, Putin will be received on Thursday at the Presidential Palace by the country's top authorities, including the general secretary of the Communist Party, Nguyen Phu Trong.
