The Judiciary Police (PJ) announced this Friday that it had arrested two sisters in Braga, suspected perpetrators of aggravated drug trafficking. They are suspected of bringing drugs into Braga Prison.
According to the authorities, the facts were reported by the prison to the PJ's Braga Criminal Investigation Department. Investigations were launched, "which culminated in the arrests and the seizure of large sums of money and other objects", the statement reads.
"During the investigation, evidence was gathered that, at different and successive times, during their visits to their companions, the two detainees, in contact with them and in a covert manner, delivered the substances," the statement added.
On other occasions, "from the outside, they even threw considerable quantities of drugs and other objects into the inmates' recreation area, with a view to trafficking them inside the establishment".
The detainees, aged 24 and 27, will be brought before the competent judicial authorities for questioning and the application of coercive measures.
