Josefa Díaz Ruiz, an 80-year-old woman who lives in Madrid, Spain, fulfilled her oldest dream: seeing the sea.
This wish came true thanks to the Adopt a Grandfather foundation, which took the lady to the picturesque Arenal-Bol beach, in Calpe, Alicante.
The woman, who arrived blindfolded, was carefully led to the wall. When she removed the handkerchief, her astonishment was evident. “Oh, it’s wonderful”, she exclaimed, dazzled by the immensity, then asking “how far does the sea go”.
After seeing the sea for the first time, he decided to wet his feet. Upon arriving in Calp she was received by the mayor Juan Manuel del Pino, the councilor for Social Assistance, Itziar Doval, and the councilor for Culture Guillermo Sendra, who presented her with a painting by Calp.
The memorable day occurred on the 7th of this month and the woman even went on a catamaran trip.
Everything was possible due to the Adote um Avô foundation, which was born in 2014 and, since then, has become a social movement, being awarded more than 20 times in terms of entrepreneurship and social innovation at national and international level.
To date, they have provided more than 50,000 hours of companionship to more than 6,600 foster grandparents thanks to their community of more than 13,000 volunteers. The application currently has more than 250,000 registered users.
