A merchant ship issued a distress call after being attacked in the Red Sea, near Yemen, this Wednesday.
The alert was given by the British maritime security company Ambrey, cited by the Al Jazeera news agency, reporting on the most recent attack on ships in the region carried out by the Shiite Huti movement, from Yemen.
The ship was traveling about 68 nautical miles (126 kilometers) southwest of the Houthi-controlled city of Hodeidah when it was attacked.
The company "assessed the vessel in line with the profile of the Houthis' targets at the time of the incident", it said in a statement, without giving further details.
The Houthis, who have controlled the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, and other areas in the north and west of the country since 2015, launched several attacks against Israel and ships with some type of Israeli connection following the offensive in Gaza, while at the same time threatening to attack ships Americans and British in response to attacks on Yemen.
