Father Leaves Daughter to Sleep in Car and Goes to Play Playstation. The Girl Died

An American father was charged with second-degree murder on Friday after leaving his two-year-old daughter sleeping in the car in high temperatures, causing her death.

Christopher Scholtes, 37, was arrested Friday, and an investigation into what happened revealed more details about his father's conduct.

The man claimed that when he arrived home the girl was sleeping. He didn't want to wake her up and decided to leave her inside the Honda Acura SUV, next to the house, for around 30 minutes.

The girl was found when her mother arrived home. After all, she would have been in the car for three hours, under the sun.

Messages exchanged between the woman and her husband and statements from the couple's other two children, aged five and nine, lead us to believe that it was not the first time the father had done this.

Erika Scholtes, who is a doctor at the hospital where her daughter's death was declared, sent a message to her husband on the way to the hospital, which read: "I told you to stop leaving them in the car, how many times have I told you."

The children also stated that it was common for their father to leave them sleeping in the car.

In this case, Christopher left his daughter in the car with the air conditioning on, however, he was distracted playing Playstation and didn't notice the time passing. The air conditioning - the parent knew - would automatically turn off half an hour later and the girl died in temperatures of 40ºC.
