Miss Kansas Vents On Stage And Denounces Abuse: ‘My Abuser Is Here Today’

During her participation in Miss Kansas, nurse Alexis Smith reported that she was a victim of abuse and that her attacker was even in the audience at the contest. She was crowned on June 8th, in the United States, however, her statements only began to resonate on social media this July.

In an interview, which took place on stage at the event, Alexis was asked about how she would use her role as an ambassador, if she emerged from the competition as the big winner.

“In fact, some of you here in the audience saw me very emotional, because my attacker is here today,” she said, highlighting that this would not be an obstacle for her to represent the next Miss Kansas.

Still sharing the moment on social media, Alexis Smith said that the contest ended up taking an unexpected turn when someone, from whom she was already healing, tried to disturb her peace. “Instead of falling into silence, I chose to live my vision of a better world,” she said.

In an interview with KSN, an NBC affiliate, Alexis Smith commented on the case. She says every woman in her family ended up being a victim of domestic violence. The miss says she got into her first relationship when she was 14 years old. “But it was also an abusive relationship that I had until 2018, 2019”, she said.
