Woman Steals $300,000 From Church, Bought Gifts For Tiktokers And More



Marie Battocletti, 35, pleaded guilty to a fraud charge involving the theft of money from St Francis of Assisi University Parish in a federal court in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.


A former administrative assistant at a Catholic church in Alabama, in the United States, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to embezzling around 300,000 dollars (around 276,000 euros) to cover gifts for TikTok content creators and personal expenses.


 

As reported by al.com, quoted by the Associated Press, Kristen Marie Battocletti, 35, pleaded guilty to a fraud charge involving the theft of money from St Francis of Assisi University Parish in a federal court in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.


According to court documents, Battocletti engaged in a scheme to defraud the church from April 2023 to October 2023 and used the money to buy more than 220,000 dollars (about 203,000 euros) in TikTok digital coins for gifts to content creators and to pay personal expenses. In the scheme, Battocletti made more than 600 unauthorized transactions.


US District Judge L. Scott Coogler set Battocletti's sentencing for 26 November. Battocletti could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for the wire fraud charge, with the possibility of three years' probation and a fine of 250,000 (around 230,000 euros).
