The studio responsible for creating ‘Halo’ and, more recently, the ‘Destiny’ series - Bungie - has announced a new wave of redundancies. After laying off 100 people last year, the independently-operated (but PlayStation-owned) production company has announced that it will be eliminating 220 positions.
‘We were overly ambitious, our financial safety margins were subsequently exceeded and we began operating in the red,’ wrote CEO Pete Parsons.
This figure represents around 17 per cent of Bungie's workforce and, in addition to the redundancies, Parsons revealed that a further 155 workers will be integrated into a new studio within Sony Interactive Entertainment. What's more, the CEO said that these employees are already working on a new game
‘We are working with PlayStation Studios leadership to launch one of our incubation projects - an action game set in an entirely new science and fantasy universe - to form a new studio within PlayStation Studios and continue its promising development,’ Parsons revealed.
As for the future of ‘Destiny’ and the other online game Bungie is working on, called ‘Marathon’, Parsons said that the company ‘still has more than 850 team members’ focused on these projects.
