August is synonymous with summer, hot temperatures, holidays and the beach. However, there's another reason why night sky enthusiasts should be especially attentive during this month, since it's when the Perseids peak - one of the best known meteor showers and a regular presence during the summer period.
In fact, the Perseids began on 17 July and will last until 24 August. However, EarthSky notes that the peak of this meteor shower is scheduled for 12 August and, under favorable conditions, observers will be able to spot up to 90 meteors per hour. As happens every year, it promises to be a noteworthy spectacle.
It is worth remembering, however, that in order to have the best possible conditions for observing the passage of the Perseids, you should prioritize an area without artificial light. Large cities are therefore out of the question and, if the weather cooperates, you will (literally) have an unobstructed view.
As for the best time to see this meteor shower, it is recommended that you keep an eye on the sky during the early hours of the morning - with the period before dawn being understood to offer the best viewing conditions.
