The bar works to provide a welcoming environment for black women and LGBT people.
A woman from Salvador, Brazil, teamed up with her daughters and together they opened a distinctive bar with the aim of “representing the power of black women”.
Antônia Bastos, who is the mother of four daughters, went into business with two of them, Luana and Thais Nascimento.
“We wanted to create a place where women could have a beer in peace, without being harassed. Especially black women,” said Luana, as quoted by g1.
This is the philosophy followed by the team at the bar, named Casa Sankofa Bar e Cultura, as confirmed by waitress Lorena Lima de Oliveira.
“When you go anywhere, you want to be well received. Here, we make the customer feel at home,” she said.
The bar also has partnerships with other black entrepreneurs, such as Manu Bombom, a chef, and Rosana Oliveira, a liqueur entrepreneur, highlights the Brazilian website.
