Moraes Applies New Fine to X and Starlink for ‘Trick’ That Circumvented Social Network Blocking in Brazil

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has imposed a new fine on the social network X, in the amount of R$5 million per day, due to the “trick” that made the site available to Brazilian users again. The information is from g1.

The penalty is already in effect and also applies to Starlink – a technology company also linked to billionaire Elon Musk, which had its resources blocked earlier this month to pay fines applied to X.

What does the decision say?

The decision was published as a “summons notice”, since X does not have a legal representative in Brazil. In the document, Moraes summons X in Brazil “to immediately suspend the use of its new accesses through the CDN Cloudfare, Fastly and Edgeuno servers and other similar ones, created to circumvent the court order to block the platform in the national territory, under penalty of a daily fine of R$5 million”.

“There is, therefore, no doubt that platform X – under the direct command of Elon Musk – once again intends to disrespect the Brazilian Judiciary, as Anatel identified the strategy used to disobey the court order issued in the proceedings, including the suggestion of measures to be adopted to maintain the suspension”, says Moraes.
