Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today asked for forgiveness from the families of six hostages found dead in the Gaza Strip and buried in Israel in recent days.
‘I apologise for not bringing them back alive. We came close, but we didn't succeed,’ Netanyahu said at a rare press conference, addressing the families of the hostages who had been held by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas since 7 October 2023.
The head of the Israeli government added that Hamas ‘will pay a very high price’, at a time when negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States, remain deadlocked.
