Pressurization Problem on US Flight Leaves Passengers Bleeding

A pressurization problem during a Delta Airlines flight between Salt Lake City, Utah, and Portland, Oregon, in the United States, left some passengers bleeding from the ears and nose, the airline itself has revealed.

“We sincerely apologize to our customers for the experience on flight 1203 on September 15. The crew followed procedures to return to SLC, where our ground teams supported our customers with their immediate needs,” Delta Airlines said in a statement.

After returning to Salt Lake City, the passengers were transferred to another aircraft.

Delta Airlines also assured that technicians had already solved the pressurization problem on the plane, which returned to service the following day.

One of the passengers, Jaci Purser, told CNN International that she felt like someone was stabbing her in the ear.

“I heard a little air coming out and then it started bubbling. It felt like my ear was bubbling, my right ear. I touched it and there was blood coming out,” said Purser.

The woman, who was on a business trip, confirmed that both her colleagues and other passengers had experienced similar problems.

“Our ears started to hurt really, really badly. Everyone around us was grabbing their ears, people's ears and noses started bleeding,” she said.

Despite the scare, no one was seriously injured. However, the medical assistance team identified ten people in need of assessment or treatment after the flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration has said it will investigate the case.
