British Newspaper The Guardian Abandons X: “It's a Toxic Platform”

The British publication The Guardian has announced that it will stop publishing its articles on the social network X, a decision that had been “under consideration for some time” and which was taken definitively last week following the election of Donald Trump as the next US president (with Elon Musk as one of his main supporters and patrons).

“We would like to inform readers that we will no longer be publishing on any official Guardian editorial account on the social network X (formerly Twitter),” the British publication said in an article shared to explain the decision. “We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the downsides and that the resources can be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere”.

Furthermore, The Guardian points to X as "a toxic media platform ‘ and accuses Elon Musk of having used his influence to ’shape political discourse ” via the social network.

“X users will still be able to share our articles and the nature of live news means that we will still occasionally incorporate content from X into our article pages,” notes the publication.

It's worth remembering that The Guardian isn't the only media publication that has decided to 'turn its back' on X. The US public broadcaster, NPR, also announced in 2023 that it would no longer use the platform owned by Elon Musk.
