Starlink, Elon Musk's company that offers internet services, said on Tuesday that it is complying with the court order to block the social network X in Brazil and that it has started a process in the Supreme Court to unfreeze its assets.
In a message on X, Starlink accuses Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes of “violating the Brazilian Constitution” with recent orders such as the one blocking the social network.
Starlink regrets that its customers in Brazil may not be able to read the message due to the suspension of X and also says that it decided to appeal to the high court because of last week's order that froze the company's finances and prevented it from carrying out financial transactions in the country.
“Regardless of Starlink's illegal treatment in freezing our assets, we are complying with the order to block access to X in Brazil,” the company specifies.
The company has “initiated legal proceedings before the Brazilian Supreme Court to explain the flagrant illegality of this order and ask the Court to unfreeze” the assets, says the company, which claims to be “using all legal channels”.
The suspension of X, which has around 20 million users in the country, came into effect gradually from the early hours of Saturday morning and will remain in place until the court's decisions are complied with, which “apply to all companies operating in Brazil”, according to the ruling handed down on Monday.
In suspending X's operations, the court warned internet operators to prevent access to the network, which Starlink initially refused to do.
Starlink claims that the Brazilian court blocked its accounts in an attempt to guarantee the payment of around four million dollars in fines owed by X, which it considers irregular because they are different companies. The internet company has around 215,000 active lines in Brazil, mainly in the Amazon region.
