Angolan President Proud of Selection Qualification for CAN'2025

The Angolan president, João Lourenço, today expressed pride in the team's qualification for the final phase of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025, after beating Niger, 1-0, in the fourth round of the qualifying phase.

João Lourenço highlighted the fact that the team coached by Portuguese Pedro Gonçalves has achieved four victories in four games in the qualifying phase, which already earns it classification with two games remaining.

"Four games, four victories, constitutes a true feat. We are in the CAN of Morocco. Congratulations to the players, the coaches, and the entire coaching staff, who fought hard and knew how to make the most of our capabilities. Angola is proud of you" , he stated.

José Carlos Guimarães, vice-president of the Angolan Football Federation, also highlighted the importance of the classification achieved, only with victories and without depending on any opponent.

"At this moment, we are all happy. It is a moment of joy and satisfaction for all Angolans for the victory, which for the first time placed us, in a natural way, without having to depend on anyone, without having to bite our nails, in a phase end of CAN.

Regarding the final phase of CAN, the leader guaranteed that the federation will begin to prepare for participation, so that a good result can be achieved.

"The idea is that we create the logistical and operational conditions, all guaranteed with due anticipation, so that we have a better performance in this CAN, compared to what we had in the last championship", he explained.

In Morocco, on loan from Niger, the Angolans' goal was scored by Zini, in the first minute of the game, allowing them to consolidate their lead in Group F, undefeated, with 12 points.

CAN2025 will be played between December 21, 2025 and January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
