Boeing May Put 'End' To Space Ambitions

Boeing is reportedly studying the sale of its division dedicated to the development of space equipment, says The Wall Street Journal.

The publication notes that CEO Kelly Ortberg's plans are still at an early stage, so a final decision on the matter has not yet been made.

However, Ortberg said in a call with investors this week that it might be in the company's interest to “do less and do it better rather than do more and not do it well”.

“Clearly, our focus on commercial aircraft and defense systems will remain with the Boeing Company for the long term,” explained the CEO. “But there are probably some things on the sidelines that we can be more efficient with or that distract us from our main objective.”

It should be remembered that Boeing has had several problems with some of the missions it has been involved in. In addition to the multiple postponements with the Starliner, the capsule that took astronauts to the International Space Station was eventually deemed unsafe for return, leading NASA to consider other solutions.

More recently, a satellite developed by Boeing also disintegrated in orbit.
